August Newsletter

God is good! I am so thankful to serve as your pastor. There is such a joy in knowing you are exactly where God has called you to be. I believe that God is moving in the hearts of his people here and I am even more excited about all that He still has in store for us as First Baptist Church! Will you joining me in praying that He will do a great work in and through us for His Glory – a work that is “above and beyond all that we could ask or imagine” (Ephesians 2:20).

As your pastor, I am also thankful for the deacons that God has granted us and the opportunity I have to serve alongside a group of men who love God, our church, and our community. This month, take time to pray for the six men in our church who are currently serving as active deacons.

Our deacon body has prayerfully come to the conclusion that it is God’s appointed time for us to pursue the ordination of other men to serve as deacons in our church. We do not what to put any restraints on the number of men to consider for ordination, but believe that God will make clear to our church and to those men who He is calling to this important position in our church.

On Sunday morning, August 12th, I will begin a series of messages on Deacons. At the end of this series, we will have a time for each of our members to nominate potential deacons. A screening committee will then interview these nominees and recommend qualified candidates for ordination. I encouraged you to be here as we prayerfully consider from God’s word what God expects from a deacon in His church.

For now, let me simply say this; the Greek word for deacon means servant. Above all else, a deacon is a servant in God’s church who serves others for the Glory of God, and, being ordained, is recognized by his church family as such.
