The Book of Romans: The Good News of God

Trading God’s Truth for Our Lies: Romans 1:18-32

1. Because of unrighteousness, people suppress the truth.

You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

The Truth of General Revelation

· All people throughout time have seen creation.

· Creation is evidence of a Creator who is eternal, powerful, and Divine; who is worthy of worship; and to whom we are accountable.

· No one has an excuse

2. Because truth is suppressed, people reject God.

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” Psalm 53:1

3. Because God is rejected, the minds and hearts of people become foolish.

They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the law and the words that the Lord of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore great anger came from the Lord of hosts. Zechariah 7:12

4. Because of foolish hearts and minds, people have evil desires.

We all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. Ephesians 2:3

5. Because of evil desires, unrighteousness increases.

For our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities: Isaiah 59:12

We need Jesus to save us from this vicious cycle!

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 1 Timothy 1:15
